artistic output

My art encompasses both public and personal works. In my public work, I seek to engage and challenge people by disrupting or altering specific locations, events, or contexts. Examples include my landscape installations, collective guided art, and site-specific projects. In my personal work, I use artistic expression to create beauty and inspiration, blurring the line between art and craft. My goal is to keep the knowledge of the past alive and contemporary, and to together, celebrate the creativity of neglected communities.

Festivals Production & Exhibitions Curation

This section highlights my experience organizing and producing large-scale events and exhibitions. This includes developing creative concepts and themes, coordinating logistics and budgets, and collaborating with artists and other partners to bring the events and exhibitions to life. My work in this field is guided by a belief in the importance of culture for human development, the need for sustainable and ethical solutions, and the value of intercultural exchange and education.

cultural cooperation

As a cultural agent, I am committed to the practice of cultural cooperation. This involves working together with other cultural agents from different countries, cultures, or backgrounds to share resources and knowledge, and to collaborate and exchange ideas, beliefs, and practices. Through my work, I seek to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures and identities, as well as to promote innovation, and sustainable & equitable development.

documentary

Through my work in both film documentary and photodocumentary, I seek to tell stories about the relationship between people and the built and natural environments, and to promote the comprehension of the role of the natural world in shaping human lives and vice versa. My work is not only about creating visually compelling images, but also about gathering testimonies and views, and using editing to shape the stories and reach the public. My aim is to raise the voices or legacy of the protagonists.

research

My research combines academic study with independent fieldwork in indigenous communities and fast-growing cities, and focuses on the intersection of material culture and human development in vulnerable rural habitats. I examine the role of vernacular architecture in the self-building processes of these communities, and the importance of a neo-popular constructive approach. Through my work, I aim to provide new insights to the challenges, both global and local, of habitability and human development.

writing

As a professional writer, I have experience in multiple genres and formats, including articles, opinion pieces, journalism reports, prose, exhibition content, and theses. My work combines research, reflections, and creativity to offer new insights on architecture and the world. With over a decade of experience publishing my ideas, I am known for my expertise in analyzing realities and understanding context. My writing engages readers with thought-provoking ideas and a unique perspective on the world.

design & construction management

As an architect and project manager, I am responsible for designing and overseeing the construction of buildings. My work focuses on providing sustainable and inclusive solutions for communities, with an emphasis on nature-based practices, community involvement, and the integration of local materials and techniques. I believe that architecture is a human right and strive to use my skills and knowledge to combat inequality and improve the lives of marginalized populations. I aim to inspire an architectural praxis based on social justice.

edition & publishing

As an editor and publisher, I have experience in creating and disseminating online and printed works, such as books, magazines and platforms. My approach prioritizes inclusivity and accessibility, and I strive to create spaces for diverse voices and perspectives. Through my publishing work, I aim to break down rigid structures and question established norms in the field of architecture, inspiring critical thinking and facilitating the sharing of knowledge and ideas.

conferences & colloquiums

Due to my diverse experience in various professional fields in and around architecture, as well as my eccentric perspective of it, I have been invited to speak at conferences, festivals, and other events at universities and cultural entities. As an advocate of fair architecture, I emphasize the importance of communication in generating architectural thought and creating realities. I work towards sensitivity and critical thinking in this field, and aim to connect ideas and create positive change in our profession.

artistic output

..
In this section, you will find a small sample of my work that merges the worlds of architecture and art. Whether it's through land art installation, textile works, or urban intervention, each piece is a reflection of my commitment to creating engaging and thought-provoking works that push the boundaries of design.
In my portfolio, art interventions refer to intentionally disrupting the conventional or expected function or presentation of an artwork or space through the introduction of a new element or perspective. This can include actions such as adding a new layer of meaning or context to an existing piece, reusing or repurposing found materials, or using the environment or audience participation in the creation or display of the artwork. These interventions can be temporary or permanent, and are often designed to challenge the viewer's preconceived notions or to foster dialogue and engagement with the artwork. Using artistic expression as a means to disrupt or alter a specific situation can be a powerful way to engage people and create meaningful dialogue. It also allows for a greater level of collaboration and community involvement in the artistic process. This can help to draw attention to the unique characteristics and history of a place, and encourage people to think more deeply about their surroundings. In my personal art works, I am drawn to the tactile and hands-on nature of crafts such as textiles and pottery. I find a deep sense of fulfillment in the process of creating with my hands, and I use these mediums to communicate my ideas and emotions in a creative and visual manner. In many ways, my art serves as a form of meditation and self-expression for me. As I continue to learn and grow in these areas, I am also interested in how these mediums can be used to challenge traditional perceptions and definitions. I am also inspired by the rich history and cultural traditions associated with crafts, and I strive to keep this knowledge alive and relevant in contemporary times. Through my art, I aim to celebrate the creativity of overlooked and neglected communities, and to contribute to the ongoing conversation about the value and importance of crafts in today's world.

construction technical assistance

..
I have a strong background in working on projects that involve community engagement and participation. I am knowledgeable about the cultural, social, and economic factors that can impact the success of these projects. I am passionate about using my skills and experience to support the development and improvement of communities, particularly in regard to access to safe, affordable, and sustainable housing and services.
One organization I have had the opportunity to work with is the Center of Education and Communication Guaman Poma de Ayala (GPA). This organization focuses on promoting human development and the fulfillment of individuals in society, with a specific emphasis on ensuring access to basic sanitation and quality basic services in decent, safe housing.I was part of the housing team for the "Strengthening Capacities for the Improvement of the Habitability Conditions of Indigenous Rural Housing, South Valley of Cusco" project. My responsibilities included creating site surveys and as-built plans, drawings, and documentation of the current situation of houses in various indigenous communities. This involved measuring, reviewing, correcting, and drawing plans, and photo shootings for the technical records of these communities, and preparing the final layout for the new dwellings. I also assisted in the monitoring of housing improvement works in these communities and provided technical assistance to beneficiaries. In addition to this main project, I collaborated on other major GPA projects: I accompanied the head architect of the center in the monitoring of Disaster Risk Reduction work in the Saphi ravine in Cusco, and I worked on the adaptation of the built environment of the Guaman Poma Center School & Kindergarten, based on principles of sustainable design and neuroarchitecture. Lastly, I have also participated in numerous institutional activities, such as the San Jerónimo district Women's Leaders Workshop, the Encounter of Peasant Communities (Interculturality Week), and the Internship for Communities in the Ccorca district.

Festivals Production & Exhibitions Curation

..
As a festival organizer and exhibitions curator, my work is motivated by the belief that these events can be powerful tools for creating revolutionary movements and collective thought. They bring together diverse groups of people to share ideas, experiences, and perspectives, facilitating a space for the expression and exploration of social, cultural, and political issues. In doing so, festivals and exhibitions can serve as a platform for advocacy and activism. By highlighting important topics and the views of marginalized or underrepresented groups, these events can help to create momentum for social and cultural change. Additionally, they can offer an opportunity for people to connect with others and foster a sense of common purpose and shared identity.
I have had the opportunity to contribute to a range of projects that align with these ideals, such as the International Festival of Art and Construction (IFAC), the MAKE programmes, and the exhibition on popular architecture for the Ethnographic Museum of Castilla y León: IFAC is a large-scale event that brings together artists and architects from around the world to explore and rethink strategies for a sustainable future in the rural context. Over 10 days, it offers a range of workshops and talks that question the contemporary role of the rural world and the role of art and architecture as positive agents of transformation. As co-founder of MAKE, I have worked towards a core mission of involving rural environments promoting their selfsufficiency through culture. MAKE programmes connect people and places in an effort to decentralize the nodes of current cultural proposals in a globally coordinated movement. The exhibition "Looks at Popular Architecture in Spain. Carlos Flores Photographic Collection" showcases the importance of vernacular architecture, which is often marginalized and belittled, for human development. It revives the documentation work of the architect Carlos Flores through his extensive photographic bank on popular architecture and raises awareness about its value while encouraging its incorporation into contemporary architecture and its challenges.Through my work, I hope to continue promoting the transformative power of festivals and exhibitions as a means of fostering social change and cultural exchange.

cultural cooperation

..
Cultural cooperation is a way of empowering community members to actively participate in and shape their cultural experiences and identities. As an international cultural actor, I am dedicated to fostering cultural engagement and empowerment through the creation, implementation, and coordination of bilateral cultural programs and events. I work with artists, practitioners, and communities from various countries and establish and strengthen partnerships with organizations, institutions, and embassies in order to facilitate cultural exchange and cooperation.
The tasks involved in these projects vary, but may include generating creative concepts and ideas, coordinating and managing the production of events, exhibitions, performances or other experiences, promoting them to a target audience, managing budgets, resources, and fundraising, researching and staying up-to-date on trends and developments in the arts and culture industry, and coordinating logistics and travel arrangements. The main goal is to provide access to resources and education, support the development of local initiatives, and promote the recognition of diverse cultural expressions.Through these actions, I aim to advance values such as addressing the climate emergency, preserving cultural memory and identity, protecting knowledge and heritage, reducing disaster risk, conserving nature, promoting gender equity, and decentralizing contemporary culture. Through my projects, I strive to build bridges between communities, facilitate cultural exchange, and support fair human development. I use a range of skills and experiences, including strong communication and networking abilities, leadership, creativity, and initiative. Additionally, I have experience in directing and managing projects that align with my values and goals, and in adapting to new situations and challenges. These skills allow me to establish and maintain international connections and networks, and collaborate effectively with cultural agents from diverse backgrounds. I am resolved to conducting my work responsibly, and to respecting the autonomy and diversity of the communities and cultures with which I work. Ultimately, my goal is to make a lasting impact on the world and advance the values that I hold dear.

documentary

..
As a creator deeply committed to exploring, documenting and sharing new perspectives, I use storytelling through film documentary and documentary photography to shed light on important issues and improve the world around us. My background in architecture and cultural management, as well as my extensive network of artists and creators, have provided me with a diverse set of skills and resources that enable me to undertake these projects. My work involves researching and gathering material, writing scripts and concepts, filming and photographing subjects, and editing footage to create engaging and cohesive narratives.
One of my key projects, "Habita. Relatos de memoria e independencia" was a self-initiated and co-directed documentary film that explored the relationships between humans and their built and natural environments. Through this film, we delved into the ways in which our surroundings shape and influence us and vice versa, as well as the importance of cultural memory in interacting with the world. In addition to my film work, I have also created photography projects that explore themes of literature, collective and personal memory, intimacy, and the passage of time. These projects offer visual stories, with some of my photos being published in magazines and books. My work may bring beauty and captivation, but mainly it gathers diverse perspectives and shapes coherent narratives with a clear goal: to contribute to a greater understanding of the world and the issues that we face as a society. By telling stories that shed light on important topics and by showcasing the perspectives of those who are often overlooked, I hope to inspire people to think deeply about the world around them and to consider the ways in which they can make a positive impact."Our culture is our independence, and education, the key to a possible human development. Our home, our community, the landscape we interpret, and the territory we occupy; only in them our way of thinking makes sense, only where thought dwells can we "be", as well as "exist". Stagnant knowledge is easily ejectable. People without memory are vulnerable people. Society needs a story, an argument built on nostalgia and memories, and also paths and dreams, a discourse where an inherited and expected identity will have a place, and take root in freedom".

research

..
In my research, I have developed several main ideas around the topic of popular architecture and its potential to address issues of inequality. The increasing inequality and population growth around the world have led to a number of issues that are interconnected and can exacerbate one another. Popular architecture, which uses local materials and construction methods that prioritize time over capital and involve community cooperation, has the potential to address these issues and improve habitability, especially in isolated areas. However, the use of popular architecture in development efforts is often incomplete or insufficient, and may not fully consider the changing nature of problems and the importance of cultural factors. For this, I aim to reconsider the traditional concepts of typology, identity, and place in popular architecture research:
The concept of "architecture" involves a typological study that is difficult to discard, even if many popular typologies are now outdated or would require significant transformations to meet current requirements. It is more useful to focus on the concept of "constructive culture" as a key tool for human development and the integration of both constructive culture (knowledge, intangible heritage) and material culture (built environment, physical heritage). The concept of genius loci, which refers to the relationship between a territory and the structures within it and helps to define a sense of identity, has been challenged by globalization and other factors that can be seen as "homogenizers" or "contaminators". Instead of this, they should be understood as hybridization and a way to create new, contemporary identities that are shaped by global issues and needs. These identities should also recognize the simultaneity of physical and digital spaces. Research in popular architecture is usually based on a historical study and positioning, with the goal, either to enhance them as community and sustainable architectures, or, from claiming of heritage value addressed to conservation efforts. Cooperation goes one step further, understanding it as a rich substrate to improve the lives of disadvantaged people. I run this research in order to continue providing tools that let popular architecture and the social production of habitat be the vehicle for the most vulnerable peoples to develop fully and redefine their constructive and material culture (from the basis of the popular and a fairer revised genius loci).
